Blending in with the locals..

Just wanted to post a few pictures of today.

I’m all booked up for my trekking, rafting and Tibet visit via Everest base camp so feeling really good about my itinerary for the next 5/6 weeks. I have a few days left in Kathmandu before heading west so indulging in the free wifi spots while I can.

I met some guys in the hostel today that have just finished the course in the monastery I’m booked into. Nothing but praise given on the coarse itself, the only concern was that there may not be hot water and the beds are very hard but I’m not too worried. After all, it’s only a few days of my entire life.

Tomorrow is fully packed with sightseeing so I’ll upload lots more images.

All is well in Kathmandu

I have arrived safely, found a good wifi spot with good beer so all is well.

There was a little drama in the airport, I left my purse on the wrong side of the security gate but a very pleasant security man called up the pub I’d left it in.

Thankfully, it’s just kept me a little more alert and focused on triple checking my essentials are with me.

The journey was long but the my hotel picked me up at the airport which really helped. My room is very basic but at less than £7 a night I can’t complain with a clean room and hot shower.

Kathmandu is very busy. I’m staying in Thamel which is like the tourist centre. It’s filled with tourist centres, souvenir shops and general tourism requirements. Makes life much easier and also a little reassuring seeing more independent travellers walking around.

My first goal is to arrange a trip to Tibet. It’s usually a 8 day trip, flying to Everest base camp, then up to the old cities then bus journey back stopping off at various spots.

I have just under 3 weeks until I book into my Kopan monastery so it makes sense for me to try and do that part of my journey first.

I am glad that I’ve planned and researched what I want to do first as some of the tour operators seem quite insistent that I should go from their advise however, I can be flexible if needed. It’s much of the same really, I’m just happy to finally be on this adventure.

Welcome

Welcome lovely people to my first blog attempt.

First things first, thank you for being interested enough to be reading my words. I think to begin with I’ll set some expectations for you.

I’m not going to share any personal details on this. If you know me then you’ll know how I’ve got to this point in my life and why I’m going on this journey.

My wonderful work colleagues at Serco bought me a little tablet so I can share my stories. Most of them however, will be aware at my appalling spelling and grammar so if you get frustrated with said flaws then please excuse and don’t judge. It’s just a skill I’ve never obtained to a high standard.

The Plan.
I’ve booked a return flight to Kathmandu to see some mountains, become more independent, sooth my soul a little and perhaps learn some skills to manage my overactive thought spirals.

I welcome you to join me on my journey, I’ll try not to be too boring or annoyingly quirky. The aim is to just share my experiences and post lots of pictures when I find wifi spots deep in the Himalayan mountains.
